The IFSC code is made up of three parts:

  • The first four characters represent the bank code.
  • The fifth character is always zero, reserved for future use.
  • The last six characters represent the branch code.

For example, SBIN0000300 is the IFSC for SBI’s Mumbai Fort branch. IFSC codes are used in NEFT, RTGS, IMPS and other electronic transfers.
