In a significant move to enhance user convenience, the CBIC has recently introduced a groundbreaking feature of enabling taxpayers to make GST payments using Credit and Debit Cards. This blog will delve into the details of this update, providing a comprehensive guide on how to make payments through this new functionality.
The latest update on the GST portal has introduced a user-friendly functionality allowing GST payers to use debit or credit cards for payments. Currently, the portal exclusively accepts cards through the Kotak Mahindra Payment Gateway, with plans to include more Credit Card options in the near future.
The portal offers both online and offline payment avenues, giving businesses the flexibility to choose the most suitable mode for their GST payments. Factors to consider when choosing a payment method include the time remaining before the GST return due date, convenience, the selected bank, and other pertinent factors.
As of now, the active online methods for GST payment include net banking, Immediate Payment Services (IMPS), UPI, and the newly enabled Credit and Debit Card payments.
For those preferring offline methods, the GST portal accepts payments through over-the-counter (OTC) options such as cheques, demand drafts, cash, NEFT, and RTGS.
To leverage the newly introduced Credit and Debit Card payment option, users can follow these simple steps within the E-payment section:
Firstly, Navigate to the E-payment section on the GST Portal to initiate the payment process.
Now, Within the E-payment section, select the Credit/Debit Card option to proceed with the preferred payment mode.
Users are then prompted to choose their preferred bank for the transaction, ensuring flexibility and convenience.
Tick the agreement box to acknowledge and accept the terms and conditions associated with the Credit/Debit Card payment.
Finally, click on the "Make Payment" button to finalize the transaction and successfully complete the payment process.
While the new feature brings added convenience, taxpayers are urged to exercise caution and thoroughly examine the associated transaction charges before opting for Credit Cards, Debit Cards, or BHIM UPI sub-payment modes. Transparent disclosure of charges is a priority, and users are encouraged to review these charges meticulously to make well-informed decisions and avoid any unforeseen costs.
The latest update on the GST portal, allowing taxpayers to make payments using Credit and Debit Cards, marks a significant step towards enhancing the overall user experience. As the portal continues to evolve, businesses are provided with more options and flexibility in managing their GST payments. However, understanding transaction charges is crucial to making informed decisions and optimizing the payment process. Stay updated on further developments, as more Credit Card options are expected to be added to the portal in the future.
