A Complete Guide to GST e-Invoice Registration on IRP

According to CBDT 14.71 lakh crore rupee taxes were collected in the financial year 2022-23. This vast market of taxes attracts tax frauds. To prevent this and to increase the transparency e-Invoicing system has been introduced.

With the aim of simplifying invoicing and reducing tax evasion, this system has become an essential component for businesses. So, This blog will act as a guide to navigate through GST e-invoice registration and IRP.

What is GST e-Invoice Registration?

GST e-invoice registration is the process of enrolling businesses onto the electronic invoicing system established by the Indian government. By registering for e-invoicing, businesses can generate and validate invoices electronically, ensuring compliance with GST regulations. This digital approach facilitates faster processing, reduces errors, and enables seamless integration with the GST network.

What is an Invoice Registration Portal ?

The Invoice Registration Portal (IRP) is the central platform that serves as the interface between businesses, invoice registration entities (IREs), and the GST system. It plays a crucial role in validating and authenticating invoices, generating unique Invoice Reference Numbers (IRNs), and creating corresponding QR codes. The IRP ensures the integrity and authenticity of e-invoices by validating them against the prescribed GST rules and formats.

Step-by-Step Guide to GST e-Invoice Registration

Step 1: Access the Invoice Registration Portal:

Visit the official GST e-invoice portal or the specific portal designated for this purpose. You can find it by searching online or clicking here at the e-Invoice 1 portal .

Step 2: Understand the Registration Process:

If a taxpayer is already registered on the e-way bill portal, he or she can use the same login credentials to access the e-invoice portal.

If a taxpayer is not registered on the e-way bill portal, he or she must have a GSTIN and a mobile number registered with the GST system.

Step 3: Provide Business Details:

These details include the applicant's name, trade name, address, mobile number, email ID, and other information that was provided during the GSTIN registration. To make sure these details are correct, you need to click on the 'Send OTP' button. An OTP will be sent to the mobile number you have registered. You should enter this OTP in the registration form and then click on the 'Verify OTP' button to confirm your identity.

Step 5: Complete the Registration

Once the OTP has been verified successfully, the system will ask you to choose a username of your choice. The username should be between 6 and 15 characters long. After entering the username, you need to create a password. Make sure to choose a strong and secure password. Then, re-enter the password to confirm it. Once you have entered the password and confirmed it, click on the 'Save' button. Now, you have successfully created your credentials.
