How to File GSTR 10 Online: Complete Return Filing Guide

When a business cancels its GST registration, it is required to file GSTR-10 (Final Return) to capture outstanding liabilities and deactivate the GST account. If GSTR-10 is not filed, the business may be penalized under GST law. What is GSTR-10

Who should file GSTR-10

Each registered taxpayer who has had his GST registration cancelled or surrendered is required to file GSTR-10 regardless of whether he was conducting business at the time of cancellation. Due Date for Filing GSTR-10

GSTR-10 has to be filed within 3 months of the later of:

The GST registration cancellation date, or;
the date of the order of cancellation from the GST authorities.

As an example, say an order of cancellation is made on 1st April but has an effect date of 15th March, in this case the three months will start on 1st April.

Step-by-Step Guide to File GSTR-10 Online

Step 1 - Sign in

Go to the official GST portal.
Log in to your account using your valid username and password.
Check that your account is active and related to the GSTIN you are cancelling.

Step 2 - Go to GSTR-10

Once logged in, go to the menu at the top of the page and select “Services > Returns > Final Return”.
This page is only for taxpayers who are filing their final GST return for cancellation.

Step 3 - Fill out all the required details

The GSTR-10 form will open showing your GSTIN, legal name, and trade name.
Enter the Application Reference Number (ARN) from your cancellation application.
Fill in the effective date of cancellation and details of the order from the GST officer.
Fill in the stock details — inputs, semi-finished goods and finished goods — with the correct value and applicable tax rates.

Step 4 - Fill out tax details

After filling in your stock information, it will auto-calculate the tax liability based on the stock you filled in.
Verify and check the amount to pay under CGST, SGST, IGST, and Cess.

Step 5 - Payment

In the Electronic Cash Ledger, confirm if there is enough balance to pay the dues.

Step 6 - Preview & File

Click “Preview Draft GSTR-10” to download and review data entered.
