Tamilnadu Govt. issues instructions for GST Intelligence Wing, Roving Squad

The Tamil Nadu government has issued instructions for the functioning of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Intelligence Wing and Roving Squad in the state. These instructions are aimed at improving compliance and revenue collection under the GST regime.

The instructions include setting up a State level office of the GST Intelligence Wing, forming Roving Squads, conducting joint operations with other departments, and conducting searches and seizures under the GST Act.

The GST Intelligence Wing will also be responsible for collecting and analyzing data on GST evasion, identifying defaulters and initiating action against them.

The Roving Squads will conduct surprise checks on businesses to verify their compliance with GST laws and ensure that they are paying the correct amount of tax. The squads will also work to prevent tax evasion and will have the power to seize goods, documents and records.

The move is aimed at improving the efficiency of tax administration and preventing tax evasion in the state. It is expected to result in increased revenue collection under the GST regime.

The GST Intelligence Wing is a specialized unit of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) that is responsible for collecting and analyzing intelligence on potential tax evasion and other violations of GST laws. The unit is made up of officers with extensive experience in investigation, intelligence gathering, and law enforcement.

The Roving Squad, on the other hand, is a team of officers that are deployed in different parts of the state to conduct on-the-spot verification of GST compliance by businesses. The squad is authorized to make surprise visits to any business premises and check for compliance with GST rules and regulations.

Conclusion

The Tamilnadu Government, like other state governments in India, works closely with the GST Intelligence Wing and Roving Squad to ensure compliance with GST laws and prevent tax evasion. The specific instructions issued by the government for these entities are likely to pertain to their roles and responsibilities in carrying out this mandate.
