Students’ Hostels Exempt From GST, Says Govt.

Recently, the government has announced that students’ hostels will be exempted from GST. This news has come as a relief for many students who are living in hostels and paying a hefty amount of money as rent. This move has been initiated by the government to provide some relief to the students who are already struggling with high tuition fees and other expenses.

The GST Council has decided to exempt the services provided by a hostel which is located in an educational institution from the GST. This will apply to both government-funded and privately-run hostels. The exemption will be applicable to hostels that provide residential services to students, including food, lodging and other basic amenities.

The government has taken this step to ensure that the students are not burdened with additional costs due to the implementation of GST. The government has also stated that this exemption will help in promoting education in the country as it will make it easier for students to access affordable accommodation.

The announcement of the exemption has been welcomed by several student organizations and educationists. They believe that this move will benefit the students and will help in reducing their financial burden. In addition, this exemption will also encourage more students to opt for higher education as they will now have access to affordable accommodation facilities.

However, it is important to note that not all hostels will be exempted from GST. The exemption will only be applicable to hostels that are located within an educational institution. Hostels that are run independently will not be exempted from GST.

Overall, the exemption of GST for students’ hostels is a welcome move by the government. It will provide some relief to the students who are already struggling with high tuition fees and other expenses. It will also help in promoting education in the country by making it easier for students to access affordable accommodation.
