Meet Kiran, who left his dream job in the US to change the face of healthcare in India

What do you call a man who quits a well-paying job in the US and returns to India to start selling hospital furniture? We call him a “visionary”. Let me walk you through the full story of Life Medical Systems managing partner, Usha Kiran.

“When I looked at hospitals and their furniture, it looked basic and neutral. I felt that we cared too much about cutting-edge treatments and technology and that made us overlook the significance of the environment in which healing takes place”, says Kiran, explaining his motive behind starting this business.

Completing his postgraduate degree in electrical engineering. Kiran landed the dream job of many, but to follow his vision, he left the US in 2011 in his twenties and came to India.

He started Life Medical Systems, along Naveen Kumar (Founder of the Life brand), as a small company, personally approaching hospitals in their vicinity to introduce their healthcare furniture. At that point, they didn't manufacture the beds themselves. They used to import equipment and tailor it to meet each client's unique requirements.

While the business was settling in and the brand was growing, there was a COVID outbreak, and people were advised to stay under lockdown. This global pandemic crisis disrupted the supply chain of Life Medical Systems and posed a health threat to their employees. Imports were stopped, businesses were shut down, and there was a health threat.

The need for their healthcare furniture was growing. That's when Naveen and Kiran made a very bold move. To overcome import-related hurdles and meet the surging demand, they established their manufacturing unit in Hyderabad. Kiran says, "I am really grateful for my employees who volunteered during COVID time to help hospitals in need”. That move made them a reliable brand in the market, distinguishing them as one of the few companies with such capabilities and quality standards.

Fast forward to the present, today, Life Medical Systems has evolved into a prominent player in the industry that provides healthcare furniture to some of India’s largest hospital chains. With clients all over India. Now, they are planning to extend their services to other countries by exporting their products.

As Kiran shared about his journey, much to our delight, he said, "Swipe makes me feel like I don't need my desktop anymore. The way it made my job very easy and comfortable in tracking inventory and creating quotations directly from my mobile was awesome”.
